Good Works…and Maseratis
As you may have noticed from the rather large countdown on my main page, as well as a prior post, I travel to California to drive Maseratis in a matter of days. I have received my itinerary, which involves two days of: driving Maseratis, watching Maseratis race, watching IndyCars race, hanging out in the Maserati VIP suite with…well, VIPs, I suppose. Slightly excited.
Beyond the fact that this is all hellaciously cool anyway, the fact that 100% of the funds from my winning bid went to deserving Parkinson’s charities makes the whole thing even sweeter. What does Maserati have to do with Parkinson’s charities, you ask?
Well, Maserati of Walnut Creek, a new dealership in Walnut Creek, California, has partnered with the Danville d’Elegance Foundation to offer a lucky eBay auction winner (me!!!) the opportunity to participate in a weekend of Maserati motorsports and rally driving, with the proceeds from the auction going to the Danville d’Elegance Foundation. The Danville d’Elegance organizes an annual Concours weekend in Danville, California, as a fundraiser for Parkinson’s charities, including the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The Danville d’Elegance Foundation’s affiliation with Parkinson’s causes was inspired by Phil Hill, a legendary race car driver and supporter of the Danville d’Elegance, who also suffered from Parkinson’s. Read more about the incredible Phil Hill here, in a piece by another legend, Denise McCluggage.
While the actual Danville d’Elegance Concours occurs in late September, Maserati of Walnut Creek is smartly using this weekend’s exciting events at Sonoma Raceway (the Maserati Trofeo and IndyCar) as a way to raise money for the Danville d’Elegance Foundation. And the best part? Even though I hopped to, and snapped up this awesome opportunity while no one was looking, you aren’t out of luck yet! Maserati of Walnut Creek has donated another Maserati Trofeo package for this weekend, and the auction is live on eBay as we speak! You have until the wee hours of Wednesday morning (depending on your time zone!) to bid, so get with it and come join me this weekend at Sonoma Raceway! Not only will it be a blast; it’s a great way to honor some special people and support worthwhile charitable efforts. It’s a win-win!
See you soon, baboon?
