Roar!

No, not the Katy Perry song.

It’s the Roar Before the Rolex 24! In other words, the off-season is over. We are back to racing.

The Rolex 24 at Daytona is the opening race of the season for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship (which, as of 2014, is the new sports car racing series, combining the American Le Mans Series and Grand-Am Road Racing). The Roar is a three-day testing period for the teams, who have updated vehicles for the new season – and, in some cases, new cars and new drivers. This is the dress rehearsal before the big show – the 24-hour endurance race at Daytona International Speedway.

Over at the new website, you can get your geek on with results from all eight practice sessions, as well as live timing and scoring. Oh, it makes me happy.

To give you some context, a lot of the teams and cars testing this weekend are the same ones I saw at Circuit of the Americas last September. They include sports cars like BMW Z4s, Corvettes, SRT Vipers, Ferraris, Aston Martins and Porsche 911s, as well as prototypes like the DeltaWing. I really love these endurance races because they combine different classes of cars, which keeps things interesting. Also, they last hours. Bonus!

Mark your calendars for January 23-26 for the Rolex 24. And yes, you will hear plenty about it here. 🙂
