Cars and Coffee Austin – May 18, 2014
Today was a beautiful day for a little driving and car ogling, and I made the most of it. Up early (for me), camera in hand, I headed off to Cars and Coffee for a sensory feast.
There was a great mix of cars today – classic, modern, used, new, exotic, exotic in a painful way (hi Yugo!). Not surprisingly, I took a lot of photos.
Eventually I will edit some of these photos in Instagram, but here they are in their full, unedited glory. Enjoy!
Jaguar E-Type
New Jaguar F-Type. Purr…
Interior of the new BMW i3 (aka Puggle). What.
Shelby Cobras!
Really, really large Lincoln Continentals
(Purple top!)
McLaren MP4-12C
Cadillac CTS-V Coupe with black matte wrap
Some classic Chevys
The fabulous new Audi RS7
Audi makes the best interiors in the business. Bar none.
Love the lines on the A7/S7/RS7…
You could suck a whole family of squirrels into these oval tailpipes.
YUGO!!!!!
Best in show – right here.
Yes, that is a broken side mirror. 🙂
The John Eagle European lineup, representing nicely…
Muscle cars. ‘Merica!
Looking through old muscle at new muscle…
Lotus Elan
I tried to get an artsy photo of the gear shifter through the open sunroof. It almost worked.
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
This is the fanciest Mercedes you can buy, but I admit – it’s not that interesting in the company of these fabulous classic cars. What, after all, is a multi-$100k Mercedes compared to a Yugo??
A fairly significant power plant.
All AMG engines are handbuilt in Affalterbach, Germany, and signed. This engine was built by Steffen Hahn. Pretty cool!
Standing under the gullwing door, looking at the carbon fiber hood.
The SLS was fun to photograph, but it felt awfully cold and clinical compared to, say, THIS:
And THIS:
And THIS!!!:
I’m just whetting your appetite for these three. They were my absolute favorites of the show, and each is getting its own post this week. Stay tuned!
Then there was this, which also deserves its own post. Holy cow. Expect more on this very soon.
Finally, because awesome Volkswagens.
The bus, with its humans. 🙂
(“Osterreich” = “Austria” in German)
Oh, happy day. 😀
I see it was the two-door Yugo. They didn’t have the four-door version, the WeAllGo?
Good thing they didn’t have the original version – the NoGo!
You GUYS. This blog is corn-free. Or was… 😉
I really like the teal (?) roadster. ’29 or ’32? I used to have a model (mine was blue) sitting on my dresser when I was a lad, oh so many years ago. Ah, memories.
And more memories. Love the VW van! Mine wasn’t anywhere near tricked out like that one. (Of course, I’m really drooling over that super-simple-to-work-on engine; and dual carbs!!!) And the two-tone bug! Ooooh, gotta have! Gotta have!
Now of course there is no point in going to work today. I am totally distracted. Think I’ll just stay home and play with my Subarus.
Sorry for the distractions, Rob. But maybe this is an indicator you need to “follow your bliss”??
