Strong Women: Denise McCluggage
Late Wednesday, the car world lost a true legend. A writer, racer and adventurer, who could do all of those things while being a woman!
I speak of the one, the only…Denise McCluggage. (You may remember I was thankful for Denise at Thanksgiving 2013.)
I hope to be like Denise McCluggage when I grow up. To see why, hear about her from one of my other heroes, Jean Jennings, here. You can also read about Jean’s extraordinary final weekend with McCluggage here.
And, if you want to get a sense of how accomplished and unique McCluggage was even in 1959, check out this awesome clip from the game show “To Tell the Truth.”
Denise McCluggage’s body may have finally failed to keep up with her, but her spirit and zest for life are timeless. There aren’t many like her. We’d be lucky to get another.
What an amazing person!! Wish’d I’d known about her years ago. Now I’m going to spend the rest of the morning reading about all the other “Notorious Women” on Jean’s site.
And laughing about that phrase, “suffering from severe testosterone poisoning”. Used to be that way in Aviation engineering houses, too, but we’ve made some very good progress over the past ten years or so, with some top VPs and CEOs advocating for more women in engineering, and doing some serious recruiting. Still, there’s not nearly enough.
