Beauty on Wheels
Sigh. The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe is such a beaut. I loved the 2001-2006 generation of its predecessor, the CL Class, and the new (renamed) S-Class Coupe is even better, truly the creme de la creme of luxury GTs. This beast, the two-door version of Mercedes’ flagship S-Class sedan, features a walloping biturbo V-8 and 449 hp in the “base” S550 version. I recently had a chance to acquaint myself with this masterpiece in the, uh, flesh, and it did not disappoint.
Love that chrome lip!
That grille – also seen on certain versions of the M-B CLA-Class and CLS-Class – is one of my very favorite automotive design features in recent years. Yum.
The interior is one of the nicest I have ever seen – pure luxury. Just LOOK at this:
I want to take this seat out and put it in my TV room. So comfortable. And delicious-looking, like toffee.
160 mph, indeed.
Sadly, I did not find this toy under my Christmas tree this year. However, I remain hopeful. Many thanks to my friend René for allowing me the tour (and a quick rev of the engine, which was as mellifluous as you would imagine).
Merry Christmas, race fans!
