The Indianapolis 500: What You Need to Know

The Indianapolis 500 – the “greatest spectacle in racing.” Two hundred laps, 500 miles. Tomorrow marks the 98th running of the Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (as well as my Pink Watch Party AND the first anniversary of this blog!). There will be 33 drivers on the grid, including one female, Pippa Mann.

If you are a little behind on your Indy 500 trivia, like I was, check out the carefully curated links below (ha!) for everything you need to know for the big race. We’re green at noon EST tomorrow!

IndyCar spotter guide – keep track of who’s who! (from the IndyCar website). You will thank me for this tomorrow!

Meet some of my favorite IndyCar drivers:

Josef Newgarden

James Hinchcliffe

Helio Castroneves

Marco Andretti – grandson of Mario, son of Michael

Tony Kanaan

Ed Carpenter – on pole for the Indy 500 two years in a row! He also owns his own team.

Photo at top left is of Dario Franchitti at Sonoma Raceway last August during my Maserati Weekend. Dario retired after crashing on the final lap in the final race at Houston last season, a race my dad and I attended. Sure miss Dario, but he’s still in the pits, as a racing director for Chip Ganassi Racing. Tony Kanaan is driving his Number 10 car this season.

Looking forward to watching this historic race tomorrow, then seeing these drivers live in Detroit next weekend! (More on that soon…)
